The Well-Beloved novel was authored by Thomas Hardy. Thomas Hardy was an English novelist , poet and short story writer. Thomas Hardy was born on 2 June 1840 in Higher Bockhampton a hamlet in the parish of Stinsford to the east of Dorchester in Dorset, England.Hardy trained as an architect in Dorchester before moving to London in 1862; there he enrolled as a student at King's College London.
He won prizes from the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Architectural Association. He joined Arthur Blomfield's practice as assistant architect in April 1862 and worked with Blomfield on All Saints' parish church in Windsor, Berkshire in 1862–64. A reredose, possibly designed by Hardy, was discovered behind paneling at All Saints' in August 2016. In the mid-1860s, Hardy was in charge of the excavation of part of the graveyard of St Pancras Old Church prior to its destruction when the Midland Railway was extended to a new terminus at St Pancras.
The main setting of the novel, the island of Slingers, is written on the island of Portland in Dorset, southern England.Many of Hardy's novels were set in Dorset. The Well Beloved is one amongst Hardy's last novels. it absolutely was 1st printed in three-part serial type in 1892, then revised and re-published as a book in 1897, once Hardy's last novel Jude the Obscure (1895). The novel tells the story of the sculptor Jocelyn Pierston's seek for the perfect lady, through 3 generations of a Portland family.
A bungalow housing what's currently a part of Portland deposit, on the island of Portland, supported by Marie Stopes, an admirer of Hardy and his mate, was a thought for the book. The bungalow acted because the home of Avice, the novel's heroine.
